The primary feature of this category is the ultra-high tenor (castrato) usually by a male in his early teenage years. Pearl McKinnon of the Kodaks being a notable exception. Frankie Lymon was the definitive voice in this subcategory, in terms of popularity, commercial success and in voice quality. Lyrics and music were even more simple and formulaic then the average classical doo wop song.
