Carole Scalderferri grew up with older brother Bill, sister Donna and her parents, John and Sarah in a large house in Philadelphia. Carole learned to dance from Black girls that she knew at West Catholic High School. At 13, she often left school early to go to the Bandstand studio to dance. She was meticulous about her appearance and created a stir once when she appeared on the show without lipstick. On another occasion, she changed dresses in the middle of a show, prompting hundreds of letters. She was known for wearing colorful headbands, many of them gifts from adoring fans, and ballerina shoes. Her idol was Sal Mineo. Carole was a regular that received 500-600 fan letters weekly.

She spent one year at college to become a children's counselor, but decided instead to become a real estate agent. Carole modeled for DeHaven Finishing School

Unlike some others, Carole never really had a steady dancing partner. She danced with all the good-looking Italian boys like Mike Balara, Nick Gaeta, and Don Cione and that one special non-Italian whom everyone loved - Harvey Robbins."

Songs she liked to dance to included "Little Darlin'," "Sixteen Candles," "Tears on my Pillow," "Splish Splash," "Never on Sunday," and "Let's Do The Stroll." She danced the "push" - a "type of jitterbug . . . you could do in half time - the hop, the bop, and the stomp,"

Her hobbies included reading and writing poetry. Her favorite singers were Johnny October and Annette Funicello. For acting Frank Sinatra and Shirley MacLaine. After year at college to be a children's counselor she left to be a real estate agent.She and her second husband, Richard Spada were married 1977. They lived in Philadelphia and Lansdowne before moving to Newtown Square. They operated a beauty salon in the suburbs.

Carole was married twice . Her second husband Richard Spada were married in 1977. They owned a beauty salon.

Carole was recovering from a minor stroke when she collapsed shortly after arriving at church Sunday morning December 8, 2013. She was rushed to Springfield Hospital where she died the same day of congestive heart failure at the age of 70. Carole is survived by Richard's: daughter Andrea Pergolese, her children Michele and Joseph Jr, four grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.
