Bob Horn Bandstand Dancers

October 13, 1952— Bandstand teen dance program debuted with Bob Horn as its host on WFIL-TV. Much from Horn's show and dancers has been lost in time. The reason being that initially the show was broadcast in the Philadelphia area, then regionally. So many fewer viewers saw it than when on The reason being that the show was at first telecasted locally and regionally, so many fewer viewers were able to see the show thent when on August 5, 1957 when American Bandstand went national on ABC-TV.

Before Kenny Rossi and Arlene Sullivan and Justine Carelli and Bob Clayton and Justine Carrelli on American Bandstand there were popular couples on its forerunner Bob Horn's Bandstand like Harvey Sheldon and Irma "Dimples" Eininger.

Ray Anthony's recording of the " Bunny Hop" took off after Horn began playing it on Bandstand The dance soon took off, too, and and soon all America was hopping to its staccato rhythms. The song became a ticket to fame for Harvey Sheldon and Irma "Dimples" Eininger. Harvey and Dimples were so popular with the WFIL-TV audiences, fan clubs were created for them and other popular couples like Blanche McCleary and Mickey Cullen and Jim Hudson and Carmella Raffa.

The only record that is available of some of those dancers is from the Official 1955 "Bandstand Yearbook". Those dancers are shown below.


Bobbie Miluzzo
Bobbie is taking Latin-American dance lessons, which includes the mambo, tango, rhumba and you-name it. Her favorite male singer is Tony Bennett.


David "Big Dave" Feldbaum
David is a John Bartram alumnus, lives up to his nickname by doing weight lifting as a hobby. "Big Dave" is a strong rooter for Micki Marlo and Gloria Mann,


Barbara Macen
Mention Ed Curry and Barbara's eyes light up
like a neon sign. She's president of his fan club
A part-time photographer's model and sings at Southern High's Glee Club.


Jerry Blavat
"One of the nicest things that ever happened to me on Bandstand was meeting Jo Mazzu".


Ginnie O'Callahan
West Catholic High School's Ginnie O'Callahan won first place in the jitterbug


Jackie Chirico
Jackie really had a bad time one day when she tripped over a shoe one of the other girl's lost
while dancing and fell right in front of of the TV camera. Jackie wants to be a tap dancer.


Jo Mazzu
A former co-chair of the "Bandstand Committee", Jo enjoys lstening to listening to new record releases and guessing which ones
will be hits.. One of her "best" picks was "Sh-Boom", a real hit on Bandtand.


Joe Tete
Joe is looking towards a career in aeronuatical engineering, with eyes on Villanova or Drexel
as the college of his choice. Meanwhile he
keeps in practice by helping to keep auto engines in tip-top shape.


Adam Valleriani
Like Bobbie Miluzzo, West Catholic High
School's Adam Valleriani is on the Latin American dance kick, taking lessons in mambo, tango, and rhumba.


Peggy Scaloti
Active in more fan clubs than you can shot a camera at. Peggy, lists dance as he #1 hobby, Among the fan clubs she belongs to are Johnnie Ray, the Four Coins, Johnie Desmond,
Bandstand's Tom DeNoble and the Four Aces,


Pete Capobianco
Pete has a memory of the time he shared the
stage with Audrey and Jane Meadows when they appeared a Bandstand guest appearance. When he's not "co-starring" with recording artists, Pete spends his spare time jitterbugging,


Ronnie Kingsdorf
If anyone one is interested in joining the Gloria Mann fan club, Ronnie is the boy to see. Besides boasting his favorite recording star, Ronnie is
active in P.A.L. Boxing.


Rosemary Beltrante
As the winner of the slow dance Contest Southwestern High School Rosalie won a lovely evening ensemble. including gown, stole and jewelry courtesy of Seventeen Magazine.


Lucille Napoli
Linda is Hallahan High School's graceful ballerina. Bent on a show business carreer, Lucille sings and dances professionally, and
has performed at the Varsity Club, Willlow Grove and Town Hall. She's been studying
both dance and singing for five years.


Tom DeNoble
Tom hopes to give Eddie Fisher some competion
in a few years, and already has a several fan
clubs. He has sung on WFIL-TV, and shows at
St. Thomas Moore High School where he is a junior.
