Music from Alan Freed's Rock 'n' Roll Party
Early on, in Cleveland and New York. Freed played only R&B, blues and jump blues. A typical quarter-hour would include Dakota Stanton, the Charms, B.B. King and LaVern Baker. By 1957, with the Top 40 format dominate, Freed expanded his playlist to include pop, country, gospel as well as his favorite R&B.
